Grounding and Maintenance Switch

08/23/2015 8:06 AM

Dears, for some issues concerning the LV switchgear's dimensions, we are not able to istall grounding ball studs. Am thinking to install the grounding and maintenance switch insteaf. Was wondering on the possibilty of using this device with LV switchgear, I googled it and found some conflicting information. Some info give the impression that the grounding and maintenenance switch is something to be used with medium voltage application and not low voltage. Is it true? Please advise.

Local, state and national codes will make it all clear. NFPA-70 and BS 7671 will guide you.

Electrical standards and approved codes of practice ... - HSE

NFPA 70: National Electrical Code®

Suggest you get valid copies of each.

Asking strangers for this type of advice is not safe, and probably not ethical.

Advise that you mark the switchgear door with a "Storage Closet" sign so that the local code official doesn't look inside. If it's so cramped inside that you can't find room for a grounding stud then how can it possible to mount a grounding switch (if permitted by the local codes)? And that begs the question of proper clearances and safety barriers, etc.
