How Do I Repair the "Recline" Mechanism on a Koken President Barber Chair?

09/15/2015 5:30 PM

I have a Koken President Barber Chair (I believe manufactured in 1961) that the Chair Recline Mechanism is not allowing the chair to recline. The Pump/Recline handle of the chair does not seem to be engaging the Recline mechanism. I need instructions on the procedure to correct this problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

ATIAACIEC. Just for your edification: And there is always a comedian in every crowd.

If TANSTAAFL is your response, I perfer to not have your help.

What I gave you was a place (here on CR4) to look up information about problems with Koken Barber chairs.

What you came back with was "ATIAACIEC", which according to Bing is unintelligible nonsense; and an insult.

If all you want to be is lazy, stupid, and insulting your on your own.

As Kilo says, this topic has been raised many times on CR4. His link takes you to all of those discussions & through those you can link to people who have encountered and overcome the same problem as you have. A little respect is due.

@ Kilo and Nigh,

I looked at all those comments Kilo posted in his URL prior to ever posting my request. None of them deal with the problem of the "Recline Mechanism". The "Recline Mechanism" is not hydraulically operated. It is mechanical.

And as far as respect is concerned, why would anyone post "TANSTAAFL" (There are no such things as a free lunch) if he weren't asking for money?

Let's take this a step at a time:

1. The link that I posted has links to some information such as: Other websites that have manuals. You can't just look at the short description that pops up when you scroll over the link.

2. You wrote: "If TANSTAAFL is your response, I perfer prefer to not have your help.". TANSTAAFL was not my response, it is my signature line.

3. You wrote: "And as far as respect is concerned, why would anyone post "TANSTAAFL" (There are no such things as a free lunch) if he weren't asking for money?". I didn't post the TANSTAAFL, see point #2. Also it is "There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch".

4. I didn't ask for any money, that was just your perception, based upon the fact that you couldn't tell the difference between a post and a signature line. See point #2 again.

5. Welcome to CR4. You will get a lot more help - if you stay civil.

Have you tried messaging a couple of the people who posted Koken questions? They obviously have these chairs & may have the answer for you.

This is: CR4 - The Engineer's Place for News and Discussion®

Not: CR4 - The Barber Chair Repair Forum®

If you Googled "Koken Barber Chair" or some variation, this site may have come up but that's mostly because lost souls like you have, out of desperation, come here hoping for help.

That puts CR4 on the "lost souls searching for barber chair help" hit list.

If you did really go to all the sites that Kilowatt0, a member for 8 years, gave you have exhausted the sum total of the forum's barber chair knowledge.

You, a member for less than a day, may not realize that you might have better luck searching "antique barber chair" forums than here.

Thank you Solar Eagle for your assistance and for the URLs you sent me. I have already contacted a number of these sites and I buy things from eBay on a regular basis. For those that may need parts there is a seller on eBay known as Floydthebarber. He is a very good source for parts for most any make of barber chair and other things.

Again, thank you for your assistance. And I'll keep looking.

Regards,

WW

Yes, I googled it. Got a bunch of adds for sale of chairs and parts, and a hole lot of spam. But nothing on how to repair anything but the hydraulics. Thanks anyway though.
