Rotameter Float Position Sensing by Non-contact Way

10/08/2015 11:57 AM

I wish to sense the Rotameter float position automatically, using some non contact technique. The float may be metal or non metal. The sensor should give the distance of the float from its zero position, as electrical output

Can any one suggest some way? The accuracy expected in on 0.25 mm or better.

The method may be even the camera and image sensing or any other way

You really need to be fitting a different flowmeter, Mildred.

Use a CCTV.

You should direct your questions to Rosemount, Brooks, Omega or any of the dozens of variable area meter vendors.

In other words do your own work. Then you'll know the answer next time!

The internet is also a great reference source that is self teaching. Copy the information you find and put it in a "rotometer" folder.

Copying the information I get... I am doing it.

I found some Laser sensors indicating distance using trangulation.(micro epsilon sensors) But those are useful to objects inline with the sensor beam. I can not fit it for rotameter float position sensing, as inline of the float are the fluid pipes

Thanks

But I do not want Rotameters, but, I am looking for method to calibrate rotameters by float position measurement, which can be related to flow rate of fluid, indicated by some other type of accurate flowmeter

If you want a diy system you can build up an optical sensor which senses the rim and controls a follower on a digital slide rule this way you may obtain resolutions of a few µm even!

Same principle for a magnetic system with a PM on the floating part and a Hall sensor on the slider/follower.

In both solutions the slider/flower which carries the optical or magnetic sensor is moved by a screw whose motor is controlled by the difference signal.

hiii U can go with rotameter with indicating transmitter, only the flow value can be transmitted, but am not sure about the float position, i think its possible.
