Why Sign Up For Engineering Newsletter???

10/19/2015 6:04 PM

Is it only me who gets the REALLY IRRITATING popups trying to get me to sign up for the engineering newsletter?

I assume that the popups will go away if I sign up. But then my e-mail inbox will be spammed by engineering newsletters!

I'm not sure which is the lesser of the two evils - having CR4 spammed (tho' heaven knows it's already battered enough by invitations to try various potions to various ends), or having my e-mail inbox spammed BY CR4.

I guess if it's my e-mail I can filter it straight to junk.

Anyone else having such problems and dilemmas?

I do, I do.

I chalk it up to playing in someone else's toy box.

If you close out of the pop-up, it should stop appearing for that day. You might need to close out of it daily.

The sign up form is for the Specs & Techs newsletter. That one is sent once per week. I'm not sure if signing up stops the form from appearing or not.

This was mentioned in a blog post on September 30.

I've subscribed to Specs and Techs for several years and I still get the pop-up. Maybe that's because my CR4 login is different from my regular IHS login? I'd like the system to "know" not to keep asking me to subscribe; maybe that's a function to think about down the road.

For those of you who haven't seen Specs and Techs, you can always subscribe for an issue or two to see if the content is useful. This newsletter hits on a lot of different topics. Not sure if subscribing makes the pop-up go away though.

AFAIK "Specs and Techs" and "Engineering Newsletter" are two different animals - they prob'ly don't talk to each other.
