HID lighting calculations.

07/24/2007 12:29 PM

HI.

Can anyone give me the formula for calculating the amount of lighting in watts/lumens

that would be required for an indoor area measuring 30m long x 30m wide x 7.6m high using HID pulse start metal halide lamps?

Thanks.

What lumen do you require? what function is the rom?

yoiu can calculate the power according to reverse ratio law by measure area lighting.

is it a studio?

Thanks cnpower for your reply. No, it is not for a studio. It is for a warehouse with high bay ceiling. I intend using 300-350W metal halide pulse start lamps but is not sure if I should install sixteen or thirteen lamps. The warehouse measures 30mx30m with the lamps to be mounted at a hight of approximately 8m above finished floor area. Vic.

To get an accurate Lumen measurement you must take into consideration all aspects of the application area, eg. reflective surfaces, style of fixture, layout of fixtures, no. of fixtures, wattages, voltage and most of all application. The application of the space will donate how many lumens are neccessary to provide the correct amount of light for that application. The software designed to engineer your lighting space is not available to the public usually. In Seattle, WA, USA, there is a lighting design lab that can engineer the space for you. Michael lane, LC, is the commercial lighting specialist. His email is michael@lightingdesignlab.com. Phone 206-325-9711 ext.26.

Hope this helps!

Use the Zonal Cavity Method for calculations.

If you send me the desired illumination level and type of luminaire you wish to use, I'll do the calcs for you.
