Actually, just go outside. A telescope is rather useless for meteor watching unless you are very, very lucky at where you have it pointed.

This shows where to look:

Exactly.

A blanket or beach chair and some insect repellent are all you need besides clear dark skies.

In the UK at the moment that would be a beach chair, wet suit & umbrella.

Actually, get your lawn chairs, blankets, and wide-angle cameras ready. Meteors are best viewed with just your eyeballs. Telescopes have too narrow a view are are almost useless for seeing meteors.

A lawn chair helps to be comfortable when watching, and for late November nights a blanket is usually needed to stay warm.

A camera with a bulb setting and a wide-angle lens will let you capture the streaks of light from the meteors as they burn up in the atmosphere.

This may all be moot though for most of us. The weather satellites show the US covered with clouds for the next few days.

A telescope will be much too narrow a field of view. A long exposure time (decades of minutes) camera image will be much more useful.

Thanks for he reminder and Welcome to CR4!

Ever watch for satellites? In the hot tub, right after dusk, I usually spot several before I have to go back in. Steam makes it a little more difficult on cold nights.

The International Space Station is pretty cool to spot when it is in your area. It is by far the brightest satellite, except for the moon.

Clear sky here. Camera's ready.

Now I find out it's going to be a sparse year. Oh well.

They always roll back the expectations for those that cannot properly quantify their data. The Leonids are particularly noteworthy for their spectacular peaks and dismal troughs.

Stayed out for a while looking. Absolute cloudless horizon to horizon.

Didn't see any meteors.

Got three commercial jets, a turbo-prop, thirty or so flying foxes and countless mosquitos. Refreshments ran low, so retired to inside the house.
