When you use a software, you'll forgot the basic. Learn the basic first, then the software will just polished the fundamentals.

I highly appreciate what you wrote! Unfortunately too many try to believe in software and totally forget the basics.

This is the reason for many problems due ONLY to the fact that software is not valid under all circumstances and often is used out of range.

There are too many of them (software) out there, wherein users did not yet master a version, then another version goes out the market.

I agree.

You can't learn to drive an 18 wheeler without actually getting hands on the

wheel,and tires on the ground.

Software and simulators can only do so much, the rest is,as we redneks say, is Kentucky

Windage,based on experience.

I am glad that I am not the only one to defend the need of combined basic knowledge, experience and tools as software.

ALL software packs were developed for some limited application field and accept an extrapolation as long as the border line is not too far.

Unfortunately there is more and more frequent the case that people trust more the result of a simulation than the result of an experiment. I was several times in my activity confronted with the comment: "but the simulation gave an other result".

I use since years the simulation tool in different directions (FEA analysis, system dynamics, flow control ) but I accept results ONLY if they are from a qualitative point of view logical according to general basic knowledge (physics or engineering feelings which in fact are condensed practical experience). Simulation is fantastic tool but it should stay a tool.

As the algebra teacher once said, if the children turn out older than the parents, you did something wrong in the story problem.
