I've used to think Volvo would be first to make a production version of a self driving car. Now I'm not so sure.
Mercedes has not been sitting on it's thumbs. (short video)
It will be interesting to see what companies do well in this sector. I can only guess that these vehicles will be quick to establish a larger segment of the market than EV's have. To that end autonomy lends itself to a range of charging opportunities (think Roomba)that make EV tech more attractive than ever which is good news for those companies spending billions on new battery tech.
So many companies are developing Tech for this market it's a wonder Oscar mayer hasn't come forward with an offering. In a time when Pepsi is a smartphone and R2-D2 is a humidifier there aren't many surprises.
I can't imagine the thrill the early adopters of fully autonomous vehicles will feel when they are first carried away into heavy traffic on a snowbound road. (I'm sure we'll see the video's posted of people hanging on for dear life)
So.. Would you or will you be the first in line for a test 'drive' if the first fully autonomous car came to a dealer near you?
You probably paid to ride the Mad Mouse once upon a time.
