Bolted Tank Minimum Allowable Thickness of Shell

01/28/2016 5:37 PM

I am trying to find a calculation I could use to assess the allowable thickness of an in service bolted tank. Does API 12B show this calculation??

I believe that you want to consult API 575(third edition) for an approved calculation method.

This is a general and very useful document for existing tank evaluation

From the API Website:

"Inspection Practices for Atmospheric and Low-Pressure Storage Tanks"

This document provides useful information and recommended practices for the maintenance and inspection of atmospheric and low-pressure storage tanks. While these maintenance and inspection guidelines may apply to other types of tanks, these practices are intended primarily for existing tanks which were constructed to one of the following four standards: API 12A, API 12C, API 620, or API 650

Yes. The Engineer/Surveyor responsible to the company that supplies burst/collapse indemnity insurance cover for the facility certainly is, and this individual is available at the end of a telephone during office hours. The telephone number and the name of the individual can be found in the facility's General Register of insurable equipment.
