Book for Chilled Water System Design

01/31/2016 6:51 PM

Good evening,

Which book can best be used for chilled water system designs ?

Now I only have some literature which explains the basic of different refrigeration systems but I am looking for a detailed explanation as to how these systems are designed.

The "Carrier Handbook of Air Conditioning Design" should have some good info. I'm not sure that is the exact title. I moved recently and can't find my copy just now.

Some practical points to consider: Water freezes at 0 C. Water is also way less corrosive at low temperatures. If the water is required to be at some lower temperature than perhaps 4 C (the triple point temperature), be advised that water actually swells as it cools below this temperature (ever so slightly), and that operating in this regime requires most likely the high concentration addition of additives to the water to avoid freezing issues. If you are using off-peak refrigeration to actually freeze water in a cold reservoir, then use the latency and sensible heat required for warming to augment daytime chilling/AC, then this has been done before, and simple google terms will turn something up.

I think the French invested some considerable monies into doing this some years back, and a few places in California.
