If the photographer would have stepped forward, and used a wider angle lens, we would be able to tell.... it is either a wobble-ating opto-acoustic discombobulator for launch-exhaust gases, OR, replacement guts for the Space Station's waffle maker (it IS kind of hard to tell them apart).
