Dimming an LED System up to 150' Away on 0-10V

Hi,

I work for a MFG that produces lighting for the hospitality industry.

I am currently working on a project that requires dimming low voltage (24v) wall sconces powered by one 300w driver on a 0-10v dimming system.

The site plans on having eleven wall sconces ran in a single series, powered by the single driver over 100' ft away near the dimmer installed in a control panel.

My questions is, will dimming the sconces over 100' away work on the 0-10v system?

I understand that I can mitigate voltage drop by using an 8 AWG to run from the power supply out to the lighting strip but that is currently the only issue I can imagine as I have limited knowledge on this issue.

Has anyone had to deal with this and can share their knowledge?

I appreciate and help you have to offer.

It seems "dimmable" LED's like Pulse Width Modulation. 200' round trip 10 Ga wire will undoubtedly work. First you will need to determine the wattage of each LED e.g. 3 Watt LED's run about 800ma at around 3.2 volts. So you can have 8 lamps. There are systems that allow series/parallel circuits, but they are a bit more complex. You will need to isolate each leg. You might want to try a higher voltage. PM me when you get a chance.

It might be easier to just power the dimmer with a motorized control closer to the lights...

Place the power supply in the centre of the run of sconces then buy and install one of these…

Then send me the difference between the quoted price and the $32 for the controller and remote.:)

Cool unit but its only 12v compatible and these strips are white not rgb =]

Assuming that your 300W driver has a 0-10V control, you should be alright with using shielded co-axial cable

If your wall sconces run on 24V, how do you expect to illuminate them with a 0-10V dimmer, even with a short cable run?

I dont understand your question.

My power supply is 24v which would power the unit. The 0-10v is just for dimming it, is there something I am missing?

Sorry, but what you are missing is precision. You wrote of "low voltage (24v) wall sconces" when you should have described the situation as a 24V power supply available to power wall sconces through a 0-10V dimmer. As it is unusual to have LED units driven by 10V rather than 12V you could also have mentioned the voltage and current requirements for the LED unit in each sconce.

300W / 10V = 30A, requiring #10 AWG wire.

Voltage to current converter, current through the cable and recover the voltage using current to voltage converter at the lights.
