Power cord retractor

07/30/2007 10:55 AM

I am looking for an AC cord winder (retractor) like the inexpensive type you might find on a hair dryer

Thanks Stinky Pete: What I really need is a part number and manufacturer of the AC cord re-tractor device as a unit, ...It is for a production product....The re-tractor I did find was from a compact hand held Hair Dyer with a 6 foot AC cord.. On disassembly I could see just how compact it is............I am hoping to find the supplyer..or similar type of prmanufactured unit.

<Burp> Haven't used a hair dryer in years. Haven't washed my hair either, and the dog's moved out now because of the smell...

What happens if you put the manufacturer's name into a search engine? Do you get their telephone number or a link to their spare parts centre? <Cough, wheeze>

Contact the dryer company and ask them where they get it.

Are you looking for something spring loaded?

Maybe even something heavy duty like this?

Thanks double j b: those are really heavy duty, I will send a photo of the re-tractor I have tomorrow, as the system is off-line, that I need to use to do so. The best solution for me is the small re-tracking mechanism itself...it is a less then 3 inches in diameter and winds 6 feet of flat AC line cord. the whole winder with AC cord wound around it fits into a handheld hair dryer, a beautiful compact straight design....Just right for our product design.....I took it out of a Conair 209R Ion Shine 1875 Watt Hair Dryer with Ceramic Technology and Cord Keeper..it is the cord keeper mechanism I need to procure in volume..

Cheers

PJM

You might try checking with Conair and see if its something they fab or something they pruchase from an outside vendor. Might be the easy solution.

I agree. Had a friend call a known US manufacturer for an electric boat motor they used to make years ago and they offered the blue prints and assembly plans so he could have an exact replica manufactured for his purposes. They only asked he not use it for a trolling motor and that he send a completed piece to them for free, afterwards.

He now has them manufactured abroad and they work great.

I would try to contact the hair dryer folks directly. They probably have the volume for the best price anyways.
