Need Help for Communication Cable

02/27/2016 4:00 AM

Dear Sir,

We have purchased New Pro face HMI because existing pro face model no more available or obsoleted. supplier convert existing screen program for new screen & delivered to us but they didn't deliver its cable with new screen. Old cable was

as PLC(Siemens S7-200) side DB9 Connector & Screen(Pro Face GP2300) side DB25 pin connector.

But now they delivered New (Pro Face GP 4301) where no DB25 plug so please guide how to make new cable now from both end for DB9 connector because new screen have 2 DB9 COM PORTs.

Call your supplier and ask them!

Why do so many "engineers" fear asking the source of their equipment for help???

The whole time I was reading that post, I was waiting to post what you did, and probably 100 other readers as well.

I would have been on the phone within minutes of realizing they did not supply the correct cable.

Note that there are DB25 to DB9 adapters. You have to know if the pinout is for Data Communication Equipment (DCE) or Data Terminal Equipment, (DTE). Pretty easy to ohm meter test your cable if you don't know, and then search the internet for the pinout to understand what you have.

They can also be hand built. I have reused existing connectors as well as used the type that must either be soldered or individually pined. Reusing the old plug is okay, but oftentimes you end up with 20+ unused pairs, so it's not nearly as clean.

The types that must be soldered are great as long as you have a good pencil tip iron and a steady hand. The type that must be pined are ok if you have the pin tool and the right wire, or pre pined wire. If you have the pin out information you're half done.

I believe that what you are suggesting is far beyond the capabilities of the OP.

Exactly what I would do if I had trouble with the supplier and had pinouts.

But, as Lyn said, that's probably beyond the skills of the OP.

Anyway, GA for good explanation.

Dear Sir, Thanks for your advises but I still need your help, I have received information from supplier when they delivered NEW 4301TW series screen. please check & tell me how to prepare new cable??

Now supplier not available so i need to run this screen. please check their comments.

(Com port 1 is the RS232 and Com port 2 is the RS422/485 of New Screen(4301TW).
The default Com port when I done the project conversion was Com port 2 the RS422/485, 2 wire using Siemens S7 MPI direct. As per the old project)
