Pumping volatile liquid high pressure

07/31/2007 8:17 AM

I have a client that needs to pump SHELLSOL D60 for test stand. It has a .763 specific gravity at 15.6 C and a 61.1 C flash point. Conditions are 18 USGPM at 1050 PSI and 75 USGPM at 170 PSI. We are a pump supplier but have nothing for this application. Location: Detroit, MI USA.

Thanks,

Joe T.

It probably wants a hazardous area motor, just to be on the safe side. Looks like about 17kW.

Diaphragm pumps have been used to pump nitroglycerine, so you may wish to concider the following pumps:-

18/1050 -One x D35 Hydra-Cell Pump from Wanner Engineering, Inc.

75/170 - Two x H800 Wilden Pumps.

When I worked for a company that made control valves I sent a sample toggle switch to a customer who wanted to pump nitroglycerin, I never heard from him again & often wonder what happened.

We also had a stainless valve returned because the PTFE seals had degraded, the customer was pumping boiling radioactive nitric acid!!! It was the radioactivity that killed the PTFE.

Last I checked this is what you would call charcoal lighter fluid.

Typ use double mechanical seal, Cl1 Gr D div 1 motor.

Any major pump mfg could provide.

High pressure fuel pumps are common for oil-fired boilers. Maybe you look up Danfoss Fuel Pumps . They might be carrying a pump for your application.
