05/17/2016 7:42 PM

Hi there.

looking for some advise or suggestions

Best method of packing gap between engineering block column and lintels. Block column to be built up to support the bearing load of the existing lintels . Best method to pack the underside of the lintels for strong support. Both lintel spans are 2100mm each.Much obligued for suggestions.Cheers

Warn Regards Jimmy 44

I would think the grout would be the best choice as steel tends to rust....

I know that. Nice one Lyn.

Pretty sure it's my lucky number. I am #4

I thought he was #6 way back then.

Seriously, I have had several revelations with #4. Back in college I stayed in a pad door #4 and graduated 04/04/04. Ideasmith pushed me "when I was a lego guy" to be number 42. Nope, I am number 4.

The tried and true method used here in the USA is to use opposing structural steel wedges (shims if you like) to force the lintel up as much as possible, followed by placement of a non-metallic/non-shrink grout injected under pressure.

Make sure that you pack the top of the CMU column voids with a quality building paper, tar paper or rosin paper, or else you'll be pumping grout all day long or until the cows come home.

"or else you'll be pumping grout all day long or until the cows come home."

Then it's no problem, you go take a nap while the cows run a shift pumping grout.

(That sounded wittier in my head, based off the old saying, "Party 'til the cows come home, then party with the cows.")

When I worked in the shipyard, we used a resin compound called "Chockfast" to level foundations for huge diesel engines and other massive items.

Non-shrink non-metallic structural grouts should conform to ASTM C 1107.

Here's one of the industry leader's product:
