Inertia Constant

Hello,

Is there any IEEE/ IEC standard which describes the typical values of inertia constant(H) in MW-sec/MVA of synchronous machines, required for stability studies?

This IEC-60034-16-2 is for excitation systems for syn. machines only.

Please contact the IEEE directly. They have so many copies of this standard that they are selling them just to get rid of them.

IEEE 399/97 IEEE Recommended Practice for Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Analysis

4.9.3.3.2 The H constant:

"To calculate the H constant, use the following:

H=0.231*(WR^2)*(RPM)^2*10^(-3)/MVA

where WR^2 is the moment of inertia in pounds-feet squared and r/min is the speed in revolutions per minute. The H constant values will fall within the narrow range of approximately 1 to 15, irrespective of the size of the machines."
