What Happens To The Photons Generated By Laser Cooling?

06/09/2016 9:49 AM

In laser cooling we understood that after absorbing photon, the atom emits another photon with higher energy than the absorbed one (by adding the phonon vibrational energy (heat or thermal energy) to the photon energy) and then it cools. Now what is going to happen to these new and high energy photons that must not stay in the system.

They go somewhere else. Obviously a few of these photons will interact with the atoms being cooled and return a quantum of energy. Most of these photons just leave the area.

If you get the photon too excited, it has a spontaneous emission...

They have drugs for that!

It all sounds like voodoo thermo to me, much like the notion that the Universe cools down after the Big Bang. There is no thermal sink for the heat of the Universe. It does not cool. Something more than just pure photonic behavior is perking laser cooling.

"There is no thermal sink for the heat of the Universe. It does not cool. "

The universe cools because it is expanding.

I guess this means the universe really is infinite. It's always bigger!

''The universe cools because it is expanding.''

Expanding to where? Where it is colder than where the Universe presently is? In which case it is warming up where it is expanding to? As I said, ''voodoo thermo''.

The point most people don't grasp is that the Big Bang is still happening. Space is not expanding into something other than space. More space itself is being created.

The photons emitted leave the cavity the atoms being cooled are in.

I also saw where they have made a Bose-Einstein condensate composed of nothing but photons - a super mega photon, if you will. This has to do with light interacting with a dye inside a spherical mirror pair cavity. It is believed this will be most useful in the study of time.
