Chinese Translation Please

06/11/2016 8:39 AM

Can anyone tell me what the words on the left of the picture translate to in English.

The handbook is unreadable.

I think SolarEagle's reply was very helpful.

No need to be ungrateful just because you can't be bothered to make an effort to do it yourself.

I think giving me access to a 3000 character look up table is ridiculous. All I needed was a friendly Chinese / English speaking person to offer some help. Instead I get non Chinese speakers interfering. Once again I feel like giving up Cr4 altogether because I am fed up with the negative attitude of some people to questions.

Re: chinese translation please

.....Why bother.....

To get your programme to work I guess.

if your chinese 'words' are available in a word processor you can copy them - and then post them into an on-line translator.

Go to systranet.com
Select chinese to English
Paste your chinese 'words'
Translate to English
Easy.

For fun, copy the English words and reverse translation to go back to Chinese.

compare symbols

For more fun keep doing this a dozen times to see what you get back to in English.

....it's like a game called Chinese Whispers.....

Re: chinese translation please

Thanks Horace40 but as easy as it is to translate written Chinese on google translate or other programs it can't be done easily from a picture icon. The icons are not in Windows format so looking up each symbol would be hard for me. I had hoped someone could point me in the right direction so that maybe an English version of the program could be found and downloaded. Memory is limited on the device so I need to know which programs I can safely delete so I can try other Sat Nav programs instead of the IGO program that comes with it. Like all Android systems some may be non essential. I have asked the suppliers but got no answer and its an OEM product with little backup.

Re: chinese translation please

I once looked up a simple 5 word phrase using a Chinese - English dictionary. It took over half an hour even with the lady who asked helping me. How many strokes in the word?

Anyway, my wife is Chinese. If you haven't had these translated yet, let me know; I might be able to convince her to translate. I've noticed some (many?) words defy transliteration. More like describing something. Sun can mean 'on' vs moon meaning 'off'.

That would be great thanks for the offer. I realise the words may be context specific but any help would be great. I succeeded in putting Mapfactor onto the system by installing to SD. Then IGO stopped working but thats not a problem as Mapfactor seems a better option.

Re: chinese translation please

You'll get a lot of that sort of response, especially when you are asking other people to do your 'heavy lifting' for you. There are many sources for DIY translations online, and did you know that Google Translate now does pictogram input? You draw the pictogram as well as you can with your moue, and Google determines what you've drawn, shows the 'standard' dra2wn form, the romanized name, and the translation.

If you don't like the negative attitudes, either 'dont feed the trolls' (don't even reply to their 'unhelp'), learn to snark back at them well, (who yourself to be a wit, and you'll earn their respect. Hust don't spend too much time only showing halfway), or toss problems to the communi9ty that require thought and debate, instead of just number crunching. In all cases, learn how to grow a thick hide to shrug off the verbal jabs, or would it be clearer if I said you needed to keep a stiff upper lip?

In closing, welcome to CR4.

When my wife moved here from China she had never heard of a fortune cookie. She tried one once and has ignored them ever since. The real Chinese restaurants here (mid-west USA) don't have them, so it's all good.

Yes well "Chinese fortune cookies" don't exist in China, so I'm not surprised....I think they are an American concept...The only way to tell a real Chinese restaurant is if they have cat on the menu....

Not sure how serious you are, but I've personally never seen cat on the menu. Dog is not rare, but it's mostly in advertised restaurants. I've only been going to China for just over 10 years and even dog restaurants aren't as plentiful as the media makes it sound. A colleague did go to China a few times about 20 years ago and said they did indeed have cat on the menu back then.

Wow, this has gotten off-topic.

Re: Chinese Translation Please

As kind of a humerous aside, my wife and I recently were laying new flooring tiles in our kitchen. The tiles are packaged 8 to a box, and made in China. On the inside of one of the boxes was scribbled something in Chinese that we were curious as to what it meant. I took it to our local Chinese restaurant where we know the owner, who is a very nice Chinese lady. As politely as she could, she told me that it said something to the effect "Screw you, American scum!!" Oh well, it's still very nice tile!

Same thread; I once had an older 70's Japanese motorcycle. Slightly hidden on the fork frame tube, behind the headlight was a sticker. It looked old, easily as old as the bike. "Brought to you by the people who brought you Pearl Harbor."
