Does It Make Sense in Any Situation to Replace a Teflon Component With a Duravane One?

06/17/2016 9:03 AM

Hello every one!

I'm looking for some relation between TEFLON components and DURAVANE made components but unfortunately I'm being pulled back for the short information about DURAVANE.

Could anyone advice me a paper or give me a help with the following?

  • Which is DURAVANE hardness in pumps general working temperature?
  • In what conditions is better use one than the other? Why?
  • DURAVANE general quantified proprieties.

Thanks for your help!

Wrong forum.

Norway DuraVanes - Lancaster Archery Supply

Really, I think this is just a veiled commercial.

Thanks Lyn. I've seen this as well but I am looking more about rotary machines, like pumps and turbines applications. For example I have seen that DURAVANE is used for rotary vanes manufactures, so can I use TEFLON for it? why, in what conditions?

Thanks again for your help, will appreciate if you say something once you find more.

Duravane = Ryton® /PTFE/Glass (230°F max temp) viscosity range = 0 - 20,000 SSU (4,250 cSt)

Ryton vs Teflon...

Ryton® is a rigid thermoplastic (polyphenylene sulfide) that shares very few properties with teflon.

They are both used to coat cookware, sometimes in combination, but that's about it.

We used to mold missile radomes from Ryton® when I was in the aerospace business. It rings like metal when struck lightly with a hard object.

OP needs to talk to a supplier.

Evidently the two combined with some glass fibers makes a tough component, although not good for higher temp applications....

Depends what you call higher.

I'd say skillets get pretty hot.

You would be really surprised if you heard what a PPS plate sounds like when hit with a hammer.

I'm talking about just a flat piece, not a dinner plate.

Yes it does, though only when replacement of <...a Teflon Component With a Duravane One...> is both possible and appropriate.
