Cegelec/Alstom/Converteam MV1059 Drive

06/21/2016 3:18 AM

Greetings We have 2 mv1059 drives in our plant ( they were instaled in 2006 by converteam ). Last december one of them have a problem/stop working and we replace him with one new that we have in our reserves, entering data through keypad and it all went fine, the drive that is mounted is working fine. Data of that drives are Id.no-029.203405; sw.no-029.205005v3.01. We tried to repair broken one and didnt make it, so we order a new one. Our puraching department menage to get one, but when it came to us we saw that it isnt a new drive, it's some old repaired drive. We trie to put data/parameters from the drive that got mailfunction to drive we get with id.no-029.203405, sw.no-029.205002v1.21, from newer version to older one, but we couldnt menage to do it, neither from keypad or by pc using alspa pc drive software - the old one got less sections and parameters than the newer version. We guess that updating the firmware might do something, but dont no how, there isnt that option in alspa pc drive software, on net we found that it should be done with "alspa drive tools" but we dont have that program. Converteam dosent exist any more, ge power buoght them, but we didnt got any response from them. We would aprriciate some help about this problem. Is it possiblie to load all the date from newer mv1059 drive to the older version.

Thanks in advance

Do you want me to call the equipment supplier or are you going to stop being lazy and do it yourself?

Do you know how to read and comprehend? The OP SAID in his message that Converteam no longer exists because they were bought by GE, yet when he contacted GE they are non-responsive.

mladen,

Unfortunately, you have fallen into one of the dangers of the modern world of corporate acquisitions and mergers wherein the new owners want no responsibility for the previous versions of the products. Were I in your situation (and I have been), I would keep hounding GE until you make enough of a pest of yourself that they will find you some help just to make you stop bugging them. it's the only way. GE is like a gigantic haystack, inside of which you are looking for a very small needle.

Just in case you were not able to find the correct pathway into their behemoth organization, here is a link to their contact info specific to the GE Power Conversion group.

Good luck. I have had my share of frustration in trying to deal with them on older Alstom drives, it was very very difficult to keep them engaged. They basically seem to ignore you for the first dozen or so attempts, maybe hoping you will give up. If you don't give up, eventually they find someone who gives a darn, but those people within GE are few and far between. The key is, using this service will give you an Incident Number assignment, so every time you re-engage, you use that number and sooner or later a computer program designed to track the performance of their people takes notice of how many times this same number keeps coming up and a management type will get involved.

Good luck... you'll need it.

Is this a Jack Welch legacy, perhaps?

Yes it is. He decimated their tech support capabilities in general to boost profits, but the first thing on the chopping block was support for anything that GE didn't actually make, which included any legacy products resulting from acquiring former competitors. I had friends who ended up at GE through acquisitions and they were very specifically told to focus only on what they sell NOW, legacy stuff was irrelevant to their bottom line.
