Hurricane Matthew Wind Speed Map

10/06/2016 2:27 PM

I think the interactive software behind the link really helps you understand how the winds in a hurricane move. I included a link below in case you can't see the image. If you are in the path of this Hurricane, please stay safe!

Well we don't know the path for sure....but I'm inland a good 50 mi, and compared to where I was, which was on the beach, I'm in a lot better position to ride it out....Where I live, which is on a barrier island about 100' or so from the ocean, really gets hairy during a hurricane....I don't mind a regular hurricane when I'm inland...I've been through quite a few I guess....

Yes. I am on rural property 20.3 miles from the east coast ocean (basically southwest of New Smyrna).

Not looking forward to riding this one out.

WJMFIRE good luck with this storm ! My sister lives in Eustis area and has moved inland. She has a farm with horses, donkeys, & goats still there. She said she has left them loose hoping they can survive this. Tough night praying they will be safe. Hope all is well for you and your family.

Thanks for that. We are prepared (we have lived here a long time) and are hoping for the best.

That wind map has me asking, "Where is all that air going?".

Surely the lines should be a bit more concentric-ish...

To anyone seeing this article for the first time today, the storm has moved northward an is no longer visible in the image above. However, if you left click on the image/gif and move your mouse downward it will pull the map northward where you can see the storm as it is currently.

I hope all of our Florida members (and Georgia and South Carolina) are safe. I know they likely don't have power right now but from what I've heard the storm is skirting the coast which is a safer scenario (but more expensive). Hang in there!

Haven't seen any contributions/activity from Anonymous Hero in months. Does anyone know what happened to him? Isn't he in Florida?

Almost off-topic

Cool map. I wish I had taken a look at CR4 yesterday.

Fortunately, I'm on the west coast of the state and only got some wind and rain. I've been through a dozen or more hurricanes. While they can be a thing of beauty from one point of view, they are powerful and destructive. It can be an exciting, exhilarating, fascinating, terrifying, scary and humbling experience to go through.

Well it seems we dodged the bullet again....A lot of trees and branches, some signs and awnings...a bit of beach erosion....
