Large Oil Field Discovered in Alaska

10/07/2016 7:52 AM

I thought this was interesting news and figured I'd pass it along. The pipeline technology must be amazing and I was interested in these drilling islands they mention in the article. Here's the article:

A little-known energy exploration company said on Tuesday that it has made a world-class oil discovery in remote Alaska, potentially breathing new life into the state’s declining North Slope. Caelus Energy LLC, a closely-held firm backed by private-equity fund Apollo Global Management LLC, said it made the oil find in the shallow waters of Smith Bay, about 300 miles north of the Arctic Circle.

I don't see anything flowing from here for 10 years.

I say far longer unless it can be had for a few dollars a bbl.

We have too much in mainland USA now that can be had for under $40 a bbl now to use up in my life time and likely the next generations as well.

What's a "few"? If are at liberty to say, what are approximately your direct production costs?

Of course, blowin' some smoke at the new kids on the block might slow 'em down a little....

Figure the extreme amount of present day bureaucracy and environmental BS they will have to overcome and what that costs just to build ~80 miles of pipeline then factor that against their expected volume of oil they may produce in the field life time.

Here in ND alone we have a considerable amount of present day production capacity that can run a profit at prices well under $30 a bbl market range and we're not even the cheapest dealer on the block at this time.

For that new field to be worth developing it would need to be something that is extremely cheap and easy to work with just to offset the secondary costs setting up and tying into the main line.

My guess would be that they would have to profitable at under $20 a bbl to be worth the efforts given present day market prices.
