Engineering360 Link Weirdness

12/19/2016 1:59 PM

Only the blue links work. None of the others (including the comment button) do anything at all, even though the text becomes underlined and the cursor turns into a 'pointing finger' when I hover the mouse over them. What gives? Anyone else having this problem? How did you fix it?

The links on their News & Analysis pages. CR4's links all work fine.

The links on their N&A pages DO work on my Android device however. Just on my computer they don't (Win7 + Chrome).

I tried several links (share with FB, email, LinkedIn, the webinar schedule, commenting) with Win 7 Enterprise and Chrome 54+. It all worked. Does another browser work for you?

Is anyone else having this problem? If so please speak up.

Works fine with Firefox.

Would an ad-blocker cause it to fail?

Don't know. Turn it off and see. Duh!

Not so fast, Louis. I'm entitled to a few senior moments like, only just this morning I figured out how to turn the bluddy computer on (previously the cat was doing it, the little one-upping smartass). My whole life's been leading up to this. Let me relish it a bit.

Where were we? Ah, shutting off the ad-blocker.

Hallelujah! Shutting it off works.

Now, why does my ad blocker think all those articles are adverts and disables things? Hmmm....

At any rate, I whitelisted the site and now all is good.

Time to take my Geritol. Later mate!

On second thought ... the problem was with Engineering 360 not CR4 (duh, my brain isn't up to par these days). You can send your suggestion about disabling Ad Blocker directly to the Eng 360 technical team by using the Contact Us feature -- all the way at the bottom of the home page.

Problem solved. It was my ad-blocker.

Possibly the site could remind users to disable their ad-blocker? A lot of sites do that these days if they don't work with ad-blockers.

Can you supply a link so that others can try it? Not going to spend all night looking for a match for your screengrab.

The links on any of the pages, really. The ones on this one for example:

http://insights.globalspec.com/article/3846/cleaning-machine-boosts-3d-printing-potential

Interestingly, the pages work under Firefox and also under the Chrome browser on my Android phone. It's only a problem when I use the Chrome browser on my computer (Win7 Home Edition).

Sorry to hear that. I have Chrome and W 8.1 (W 8.1 sucks) with Adblock. It works fine.

But, you do live in Texas and I hear that some parts of central and west Texas haven't caught up with modern times quite yet.

Mine's Adblock Plus. Maybe that's the difference?

See #7.

I don't have a clue.

I'm the last person you want to ask about software or hardware.

We didn't have indoor plumbing when I was child. Telephone? Forget it.

See #8 (got it working. It was the ad blocker)

Yeah, we didn't have a phone until I was 10. For a couple of years the loo was an outhouse. We were quite poor, though at no time did I ever feel 'poor.' Poor people were those who lived in places like Mumbai.

I saw that. The short term memory isn't what it used to be so it left me soon after.

Saw what? What were we talking about? Where is this place? Why am I holding this dwarf? Where are my trenching tools!

I'll make sure Savvy sees this thread. She can consult with the software guru.
