Float switches, pressure, flow, volume and other switches can be added to the electric control box to provide for your specific requirements.

Example:

Switch off when:

Supply is low, reservoir full, pipe burst, irrigation soil saturated etc.

It might be possible to have a pump available with built in sensors providing for some of the functions but I think optional extras are better.

Yes, a sump pump does that.

to control a water pump with safety by aotumatically judging the water level underground you need logic and electronic control. Visit my website and check out the section of My Projects you will find complete detail of circuit diagram for this purpose.

www.freewebs.com/aanoo then click on "My Projects" on the left bar.

Have a nice day!!

Am I missing something or was technology wiped out with the Y2K bug?

In 1962 (and before) we had automatic pumps (sump, bore hole, pressure systems etc). We even had diesel engines switching on an off under sensor control when required. We made generating plants that started up when the first light switch were switched and stopped when you turned down the last light.

We made crude sensors to supply needs and it worked.

What happened to our improvising skills?

Your down side is noise and repriming when water returns.

here is a cheap one.

I have been using this one successfully for three years now. just make sure your sump hole is deep enough and wide enough for the float switch to operate freely.
