Congrats!

Had lunch today at our fave Indian restaurant here. But I miss Saffron Patch's (Cleveland, Ohio) great shrimp biryani. Nice, fluffy nan, too, and fabulous curries.

Went to our friend's Pakistani Independence day celebs some years back. Great time, great food.

Good that you like our kind of food.

I did find a Hotel named Alibaba in Dominican Republic, Santo-Domingo that was run by a Lady from Pakistan. I still remember their food and manners. Our spices supposed to help fight cancer. Avoid hot chillies.

Our home made curries are great so visit some family friend for dinner. They will not mind it. We have more than 100 types of food system and each having hundreds of different styles in food. It is really impossible to taste all of it or even to know all about it.

I enjoy Indian food a great deal. And although I like my food fiery hot (and I mean hot), today the chef went over the top. You could take the chrome off a trailer hitch with his stuff today. I like it hot, but not so much so that it melts my fillings.

How long is the celebration? A day? A week? Going to any great parties? What's a good 60th Indian Independence Day celeb like? Just for all of us grunts here on CR4 who can't attend.

The celebrations are often for three days. Starts a day ahead and ends up a day after. You can see our girls putting Indian dress even in USA. My daughter told me that she will have a party, nice dress, sing songs and mix up with her new friends she now finds in USA.

In India, we have hoisted national flag in our local community, distributed sweets and will have nice food together. It is a national holiday for my work force and they are part of the celebration.

We also talked about, how we are moving closer to the one world with thin boarders and feelings of closeness. Indians are often good people to adjust anywhere in the world. We also welcome others at home. My wife invited American and British young men for the dinner and we have few our Indian friends also to join the table. We are very much international oriented.

Each family of us is almost alike so mix up with any one and it is one and the same.

Many happy returns! Modern India & Pakistan, as we have recently been reminded on TV here, got off to an unpleasant start. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but perhaps the transition could have been handled better.

Now things are really starting to cook. (Knew it wouldn't be long before food got in to it). I may have got the impression that relations between the two have slightly improved of late? It is to be hoped that they continue to.

Have a great time.

We are just same people. It just happens for humans that some times brothers and sisters don't go along and that does not mean they are not one family. I have a great hope not only for India and Pakistan and Bangladesh but for the countries we never talk about. Many of us even don't have idea of how many countries are civilizations exist here on earth. I belong to the United Nations ideas and has been trained by them to think as one earth. I love my freedom and I respect others freedom as well. I dream of a friendly world, civilized world, mentally more matured world.

I see independence and freedom of India in our way to relate to the entire world and not within the limits of India and limited to billion people living here. I think of all 6 billion people on the earth as one family. It is that big family of my dream. If we all join this dream then the world will be heaven. This is how I lived here and I live now.

That's really well put Shyam. The problems faced by Civilisation are those caused by the uncivilised. Stating the obvious again aren't I, since I suppose that is how being civil is defined?

Freedom some time is mistaken from tolerance.

It is often the uncivilized one uses the word freedom to put down the civilized one and hurts without much feelings. It is something which is unavoidable in civilized world, as all people will never be at par. You may punish a killer but by no means you can not get back the great life that one lost due to bad act of some one.

Try to make fiend with scorpion and it is very likely to be painful. Freedom of one may not be all good for others.

Hence, understanding the basic problem of nature, we can say that, great life is a chance, and you try to make it the best of it as long as you have it.

Life is something that comes to us as gift and it is not guaranteed to be there according to our wish. What we can do is to properly use it as long as it is in our command.

All options are open for all of us to use it in whatever way one like to use and one may only face reactions to things, which otherwise also may come without serious reason.

We give value to ourselves and try to live for it. Maturity teaches us to care for others around us as much to care for the self. This is what we know as civilization.

Calling murders as civilization is not the concept of today even though in history such words were wrongly written as civilizations of killers etc. I can only call such groups as tribes of uncivilized lot in time as black spot on humanity.

If we can call Dracula civilization then who is uncivilized? We can as well remove that word "uncivilized" from dictionary.

Losing life itself is not all that bad thing. To save a child to prevent a death under a car accident or drowning in a water or burning in a building under fire, one may hurt the self in protecting a child. Now such risks of life that may kill a person are acceptable things and are part of greater civilization.

Seeing other without money and without food when self having a five star dinner sure is uncivilized manner even though many of us ignore to react on such things. This is because we give preference to other priorities and not that we do not want to help. We pass through many such uncivilized time phases of our own life and prove selfish to survive. This is acceptable within human limits.

If we do not know and we harm others or self then also it is some what acceptable as there is bad intension to do such thing.

There was a time when 80 Rad dose was permitted as legal and now we are lowering 5 Rad to 2.5 rad. Then we did not know that 80 Rad is too risky and will kill for sure with greater probability. Time teaches us our limits and we redefine them many times. It is OK. People can act according to their judgement power and it is nor same for all.

Hi !!All Indians and Pakistanies

First of all my wishes for this landmark day we all cherish so much

Wjile on the suject, I would like to ask a question -- Did India really got FREEDOM on 15 th AUGUST 1947 ? ? ?

Was it not merely a Transfer of Power that took place on this historic day we celebrate as Independance Day ?

Unfortunately our great leaders had agreed for Dominean Status. In my opinion real independance we got on 26 th January which we celebrate as REPUPLIC DAY . Under dominean Status Britishers were still above us.

If we browse through the History prior to 15 th August 1947 we realize that there was lot of Debate and confusion amongst our Leaders in Congress about accepting a domenion status against TOTAL FREEDOM -- SAMPURNA SWARAJ a call given by great leader TILAK . Young Turks like Jawaharlal Nehru , Sunhaschandra Bose and many like minded were for TOTAL FREEDOM where as Mahatma Gandhi was soft paddeling for Domenion status but had to yield to Young Leader's persuation

Than why did Nehru and Sardar Patel agreed in 1946 for Domenion Status ? This is a mistry to me . Simple citizen like me can not fathom this shifting of stands of our leaders.

Unfortunately we have placed all our great leaders on such a padestal that questioning their omissions & commissions by any body is viewed as a traitor.

Notwithstanding above observation, I am a proude INDIAN and I complement all regardless they like my observation or not. Unfortunately we can not change the history but if we fail to understand such matters -- we can not do justice to Present and Future -- As is said HISTORY has uncanny habit of repeating, if lessons are not learnt from it.

Lets all strive to make India a World Leader and an important player in eradicating Poverty , hatered , fear, Tolerance, and foster a culture , awareness and atmosphere for Peace , Prosperity, Compession , Proper Health care, Education, Respect for democracy and prosperity for entire mankind.

JAI HIND

India means billion hearts. Our need for resources is huge. We need to educate all technically and morally to build a nation. So far we have good reach to 10% and tolerable reach to 20%. This number is growing faster.

We have serious problem of poor health both physical and metal as individuals are more like a book worms, not ready to learn to survive in highly competitive world. Our number is favorable but we want the average life standard to be higher, which is not so right now.

Pakistan may also have similar problems and Bangladesh is in worst condition. We should not ignore Bangladesh and leave them to suffer. They are also one of us which we rarely talk about. Poverty and sea floods ruin their lives each year on massive scale. Indian Government should go out and help them on massive scale. It is not an easy task to decide priorities in other country but we can help their government and can offer help to them. We also have similar problems in Andhra Pradesh coastal areas and Orisa state. We also have to do lot faster development in Assam and Nagaland and also in Jammu and Kashmir. People of those states are skilled and hard working type and sure they can be supported to form great industrial bases or their own.

Our economy sure changing things now and people are now relocating to business cities.

For the first time we found that India now employing foreign nationals on key job positions and this is a very good thing we are doing. We must so to the world that we think in equality. Soon trends will be different.

India does not restrict its citizens if they wish to go anywhere on the earth and want to make home there or get married to any one in other country. This is very important for freedom. Soon people from other countries will find India as good place to make their home and we are not going to stop them at all.

India is something to be discovered all the time even by its own people. It is not one civilization but a mix up of hundreds of cultures and civilizations. All should get the fruit of the freedom which is now reaching to all very fast with special support to weaker sections of the society. It takes time or them to realize that they are now at par with others and can live alike.

We still do not mix up in terms of freedom of marriage among all Indians. It is the weakest part of us which is gaining ground slowly and in another 10 years will dominate as old generation will get wiped out. too much moral and family values are attached to a particular culture as if others are totally useless. This is now going down and things are improving at faster rate. Still couples are killed by their own parents or relatives for inter cast marriages. It is a shame for sure. I get a feeling which is very painful. I think the economic power is the only way to break the barrier. This will also make India a better place for our guests from the rest of the world.
