Husqvarna Mower Problem

03/29/2017 7:03 PM

Ok I may not post this right so if I don't forgive me for my mistakes. I am posting this for my husband just as he has written it.

Have a 2011 Husqvarna mower. Problem & what has been done is listed. Transmission started slipping, then stopped. Purged transmission as instructed by transmission manufacturer. No help. Replaced transmission oil as suggested by Tuff Torq. (50 weight). Purged again. Moved slightly then stopped. Purged for 30 minutes. No help. Replaced drive belt. Purged again. Moves 3-4 inches forward and backward. Have also checked axel keys and all are ok.

I've always hated transcribing for someone else. Anyhow, what's the model number of your mower and any other pertinent info. you can give us.

I'd just buy a replacement transmission and use it. If you know what model you're looking for and where to shop they are pretty cheap.

The hydro transmission for my exes mower went out and the OEM replacement was something like $600 for a 15 year old mower yet the newer updated version of the transmission from a lawn and garden equipment parts website was about $250 and well with it to keep an otherwise good mower running for another 15 years.

tcmtech would just use it, thinking that since it got it for free a little slip in the transmission is fine.... and then he'd never return it...

Unfortunately those hydrostatic transmissions, regardless of band just give up at times which is likely what yours did.

There are multiple ways they fail such as blowing out a internal seal or cracking the casting between oil passages or they just mechanically wear out due to multiple reasons.

Direct drive is the only way to go. Engines and blades are a whole cheaper than an Automatic transmission

check the parts diagrams for your mower and check the transaxle number......video record your disassembly from start to finish, make notes about how things go together....check for damaged parts....the transaxle is manufactured by another company and used in several different mower brands.... maybe something came loose...they're pretty heavy duty....

The other guys may well be right, but before tearing into the transaxle, make sure the input shaft is actually turning when you think it is. Observing this may be tricky, since the input shaft and fan are hidden. I've seen worn pulleys, especially the crankshaft pulley, let the belt slip to the extent it can't drive. The idler mechanism is also a possible problem area. But observing the input is a pass/fail test.

you may also want to check that the forward/neutral/reverse lever is not loose on the shaft or broken somewhere between the lever and the transmission. the filter should also be changed for the hydraulic fluid. i did not see where this was done.

The disconnect switch pull-lever? at the back of the mower is returned by a relatively weak spring. My mower now has a custom installed bungy cord at that location to augment the weak spring. I can now climb 45° grades without the transmission fading away. Could it be that simple?

Unless you like pulling things apart and reassembling them, and if the tips you've gotten so far are not helping, chuck the sucker and get a new one.

It sounds like that problem has been experienced before....

did you try looking on other blogs.... seems to be quite a few that experience this issue.

I understand you already did the purging.
