CO2 oil well injecting works

11/15/2005 5:09 PM

Canada's Weyburn project CO2 injection process seams to work. If other people follow suit, from one-third to one-half of the carbon dioxide emissions that currently go into the atmosphere would be pumped into wells that would then increases the field's production by 10,000 barrels a day. This means that it would enhance oil recovery up to 60%, extend the life of aging oil fields by decades. I hope this doesn't slow down interest in alternative energy sources.

10,000 barrels isn't much

11/16/2005 9:28 AM

10,000 extra barrels a day isn't particularly much. I doubt this will curtail alternative energy research even if employed at a much larger scale. I think the rapid drop in fuel prices that we are seeing in the US will have a greater effect. Heck, my neighbor is hoping GM has another employee cost sale because he wants a new Tahoe.
