Grounding for NGR of Transformer

05/28/2017 7:41 PM

Dear Sir and Friends, good morning

I wanna ask about grounding for NGR.

Is there any standard that stated for grounding of NGR must be directly connect with ground rod?

What if grounding of NGR just connected to grounding grid system? As we know that the philosophy of grounding, wether connect to ground rod or connect to grounding grid is same.

I hope we can discuss further about this.

Thanks for your help.

What local codes and standards are you working to?

I have built and sold a few of these but never installed them myself, I was under the impression that the earthing just needed to be suitable to handle the expected current at a suitably low ground resistance, but again the local codes and standards should dictate if direct connection to additional ground rods along with the earthing grid is required, along with the required maximum ground resistance.

In my opinion, according to NEC Art.36 (A) and Art. 30(A)(6) you may connect the high-impedance [resistor] to the "common grounding electrode" that means "to the grounding grid".
