Mechanical Engineering Thesis

05/31/2017 7:14 AM

Hi, just want to gather relevant topics to explore. I have upcoming thesis proposal. I do not know where to look for a significant topic that would benefit this new world.

Thank you.

Significant topic? How about "developing creativity in mechanical engineering students"?

First, relax...

Take a deep breath...

Exhale, explore, and consider what is around you...

Ask yourself how well things are working...

Ask yourself what needs to be mechanically improved...

Ask what needs to be mechanically improved the most?...

Ask youself what means do you have available to you to achieve that improvement...

Identify the ''overlap'' of ''need'' and ''means''...

Start there...

Re: Mechanical Engineering Thesis

Sort of along the lines of a cheap but reliable torch ... why not look at a sustainable engineering project? I'm always intrigued by clever adaptations of simple, easily-obtainable objects that can solve serious problems. Here is an example of the kind of thing I mean. I know that's not mechanical engineering; I offer it up as the kind of thing I'm thinking of.

You'll come up with a topic sooner if you limit your thinking to a subset of mechanical engineering that particularly interested you, or a problem you've encountered that you want to solve. Do some reading. Talk to some faculty members; one of them might have a project ready for someone to take on. Good luck!

That is an easy question.

Write a thesis on the reuse of spent nuclear rods to make electricity. Arrive at the cost per kwh using uranium and the cost per kwh using spent rods.

I believe people would willingly pay extra for their electricity to get rid of these potentially world life threatening spent rods.

Good Luck,

If you cannot come up with your own idea, ask your professors/instructors. I think you will find that they have (or should have) a plethora of ideas. I had a problem deciding on my thesis and ended up with one of my prof's ideas.

Google mechanical engineering thesis topic and you end up with a long list of thesis topics at a variety of schools, such as https://into.aalto.fi/display/enmech/Thesis+topic+bank

You can leaf through and if you see an area that you have some technical competency and that interests you, you can take the area and brainstorm a topic that is novel. You could also look over the approaches and see if an alternative solution is worth investigating. Avoid plagiarism and cite your sources.

You could also find a local business and ask them if they have a problem you could investigate and propose a solution. This not only will lead to a topic, but it is also an internship opportunity with a potential career path.

Finally, get whomever your thesis advisor is to endorse your project. I had one friend who picked and pursued a project and didn't find out until well into the project that his thesis advisor though the project was trivial and pointless.

FYI, consider transfering to Stanford to get a PhD in Library Science because they (used to) have an option that does not require a PhD thesis, at all...

Stanford doesn't offer library science -- very few private universities do. Why spend $60K a year for a job that pays $35K

Cal-Berkeley and San Jose State do offer it. I know this because I have a MSLS (Master of Science in Library Science) degree.

Back in the mid-to-late 80's, they did offer an MLlS, PhD ...

I had to look this one up because my first thought this was some politically correct paf for what used to be called a librarian. After a quick search I wasn't far off the mark.

While I can see the benefit of a specialised data analysis degree, a surprising amount seems to be related to basic data search and analysis techniques, something that should be taught in most degrees in my opinion.
