Elevated Bus Now Said to be a Scam

The elevated bus that cars could drive under was talked about a few months ago. I saw the news this morning that reported it to be a scam. I was in Qinuangdao a couple months ago and while I didn't go to every part of the city, I didn't see anywhere that it had been much planned for.

I can drive under a semi trailer or the occasional farm sprayer I encounter on country roads with this.

I haven't tried it, but I can tell the clearance is there.

But it might get you out of Cold War East Berlin. A guy in the West rented an Austin Healey in the days you could take a car across Checkpoint Charlie. Got his family in; deflated the tyres so they'd just grip; ditto the suspension; folded the windscreen down. At the time the gate was just a barrier bar. Turned onto Freidrichstrasse gunned it and just drove under the barrier before the guards thought to fire a warning. Following day single bar is refitted with hanging bars to prevent the same trick.

That is a great escape. Back when I had that car as a kid in the mid 70s, and it was a beater, I once ditched someone by driving across the sidewalk, then down an alley between two buildings. There was an HVAC unit for one of them in the alley. I had about two inches clearance on each side. The guy chasing me had to come to a gravel grinding stop.
