Dear Sirs,

What all things are to be considered for underground power cabling and optical fiber installation?

Regards,

... What the cables are made of is first and foremost.

Direct burial cables are pretty resilient.

The length of the run and the size of the cables involved will factor in as well as property lines, substrate, other buried utility's, roads, sidewalks etc.

Directional boring comes to mind as well as trenching with appropriate spacing, depth and backfill.

Your application is the biggest consideration.

More information needed.

The most important thing to be considered is the experience and knowledge of the consulting engineering firm that is going to design, engineer, specify, and oversee the installation. This is not an exercise for handbook engineers that seek free advice from anonymous strangers on the web.

..it could also be an install on private property of just a few meters. I've done this countless times.

Only the OP knows at this point.

it is copper conductor, XLPE insulated, three core, armoured, stranded, stranded and compacted.

What will be the difference if the length is small or large? I think the depth of burial is standard one. Can optical fibre be embedded into XLPE cable like OPGW in overhead earthing wire?

'Document' says we have overhead conductors connected to underground power cables through 4/5/6 way feeder pillars. But we also have optical fibre to be used for SCADA.

If you are from India then you can get proper guidence from IS 1255 Code of practice for Installation and Maintenance of power cables.

What does the length matter?

It will give an idea of whether or not you're inquiring about a residential, commercial, industrial, utility, or multi state installation.

1. Where to put the ditch?

2. What to put in it.

3. All the controlling codes, laws, specifications and best practices.

4. When's payday and where's happy hour?

Do your homework! Research the codes and requirements and proceed accordingly.

Dear JE in Chicag.

The length of cable with trench is 25 km and without trench is 100 km. Optical fibre runs for 125 kms. I am also concerned how to lay 11 kV and LT power cables and optical fiber !!

If you don't know how, you shouldn't be doing it. Leave it to the professionals. You could get somebody killed. Even yourself.

You do realize that 125km (77miles) is beyond the normal maximum length of a single piece of fiber optic cabling (unless there are powered inline repeaters), and that 11kV is totally inappropriate for such long distances.

The only thing "correct" about your "thinking" is that you are "concerned". Turn the job over to someone who knows what they're doing.

In my opinion ,at first it is a medium voltage [11 kV]power cable and has to be considered so.

For general information you could see NEC 2014 Art.770.Composite Optical Fiber Cable. A cable containing optical fibers and current-carrying electrical conductors.

See-for instance-

http://www.cablel.com/734/en/composite-power-fibre-optic-cable/

You may contact the manufacturer and ask him all these questions.
