feed water temperature to Non IBR boiler

08/25/2007 10:32 AM

In non IBR boilers, in india, manufacturer recommends feed water temperature should not exceed 40 deg.C. why is it so? Can we use the condensate of temperature 50 deg.C to 80 deg.C to feed boiler. If yes, how?

Dear ducon

IBR is the abbr for" Indian Boiler Regulation".It may be that Non IBR stands for a Low pressure boiler.Mr Shridhar has clarify the rating of boiler i.e.TPH,Kg/cm2 etc.to get the solution.

Thanks the guest who informed me IBR.

Such Boilers I believe will be steam generators upto 600 kg/hr?

Please state if this is a Steam Generator? Is it for hot water or steam? If steam please state operating pressure Bar & steam generation.

This is steam generator, packaged boiler or double skinned water tube boiler; having of 600kg/Hr capacity operating at 10kg/cm2 pressure. This has economiser, air blower with burner. Fuel used is HSD and feed water is soft water...

Surely a telephone call to the boiler manufacturer for technical assistance would sort this one out?

it is because of the limitation of feed pump. normally positive displacement type feed pumps are used in non ibr boilers. if feed water temp is more, then there will be chances of vapour locking and water will not be pumped to boiler leading to watertube coil overheating and accident.

I am thankful for your inputs.... i am in touch with the manufacturer M/s.Thermax. As per them, it is not recommended. However i am seeing feasibility / opportunity to use condensate water (without using heat exchanger) to feed the non IBR boilers...

i agree with Radtherm.

If you change your pump to give feed water at 100C then you will save 1% fuel or increase boiler efficiency 1% with every 6C rise in your feed water temperature.

Your savings can be upto 11%. The difference in the cost of replacing the pump will be paid off within 6 months plus the increase in the boiler/tube life with minimized thermal shocks with feed water at 100C rather than at what temperature you are presently giving it. Consult your Boiler Manufacturer.
