Computer

09/02/2007 11:29 PM

Hi friends,

I have a question for computer brains:

I am using Windows XP, how can I stop Yahoo messenger and Windows Live Messenger from opening automatically each time I start my computer. I want to open them from All Programs when I need. I have tried msconfig instruction to remove those programs from start-up menu, but once I use them, they are automatically added to start-up menu.

Thank you

>yahoo messenger->General Settings->untick"start automatically while windows starts.

Same way you can stop MSN aslo. Most of the software will ask you whether you want automatic start of the program, better deselect them.

otherway is untick from startup menu(as you mentioned)

XP-Antispy, a free program to download, does this and more......it stops your PC being like ET, stops it phoning home!! It is also much simpler to use than most other methods.....

It is also now Vista compatible.....

You can download it in many different languages from here:-

Them and a load of other stuff can be stopped from running at start up by using msconfig. START/RUN/MSCONFIG end tab on right hand side, untick what you dont want to start with windows, be careful you may need some of it, do a search on google if your not sure.

Use:

AUTORUNS

[Can disable / re-enable from it a lot of Auto-runs. No need to search for menues.

Nothing to install ! Just extract all files in a folder. Run .exe file or keeps its ShortCut in a convenient location. & see what you can

Do. Haajee ]

This utility, which has the most comprehensive knowledge of auto-starting locations of any startup monitor, shows you what programs are configured to run during system bootup or login, and shows you the entries in the order Windows processes them.

These programs include ones in your startup folder, Run, RunOnce, and other Registry keys.

You can configure Autoruns to show other locations, including Explorer shell extensions, toolbars, browser helper objects, Winlogon notifications, auto-start services, and much more.

Autoruns goes way beyond the MSConfig utility bundled with Windows Me and XP.

Autoruns' Hide Signed Microsoft Entries option helps you to zoom in on third-party auto-starting images that have been added to your system and it has support for looking at the auto-starting images configured for other accounts configured on a system.

Also included in the download package is a command-line equivalent that can output in CSV format, Autorunsc.

You'll probably be surprised at how many executables are launched automatically!

Autoruns works on all versions of Windows including 64-bit versions.....(free).....GO THERE! <http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/autoruns.mspx?wt.svl=whatsnew>
