How do I Unlock Laptop DVD Region?

My daughter has a Acer Aspire E 15 laptop. We live in the uk but she travels the world and on a recent trip to the USA she bought a DVD, when she got back to the uk she watched it a few times then got the following message "1 chance remaining before region will change". Her region is now permanently changed to region 1.

Meaning she can no longer watch region 2(uk) dvd's.

Didn't know that was a thing, is there any way to unlock this?

You didn't say what the OS is. Here's a couple from Google.

The world is split up into 7 DVD regions (see Fig.1). 1-6 shown on the above map as well as region 0 will play on all drives.

What was the purpose of setting up these restrictions? I didn't know about this but then I'm not travelling anywhere outside the US.

Except maybe things like music by Dire Straits isn't allowed in the UK regions.

Go to:

settings...time and language

select region and language

click on country desired in dropdown menu

When I installed brand-new DVD drives with the driver-software from the OEM (original equipment manufacturer), the instructions that came with it specified the limited times the region can be changed. If this is what you're facing, it doesn't matter what OS you use. You have to know how to hack the specific hardware's firmware. That's easier said than done.

On my PlayStation 4 games there is encoded on the discs regional codes. In order to use discs encoded with other regions I would need to buy a PlayStation for that region. It's all about money, who got's it, who wants to control it and who wants more of it.
