Electric/Electronic means to eradicate moles

09/07/2007 4:11 PM

Recently our neighbourhood has had an influx of starface moles due to construction in the surrounding area. It seems the moles go on the move to other locations (our's in this case) and play havic with the lawns and flower beds.

No pest control organization locally will even touch the problem.

Many of the problem areas are in isolated flower beds.

The Question:

Is there any method using an electrical current introduced into each end of the flower bed to entice the little creatures to move on? Naturally, we would like to be around after to enjoy the peace and quiet after the moles have decided to seek more pleasing accommodation elsewhere.

Just a crazy thought but who knows if you don't ask?

Thanks

Brian

Gee Brian, doesn't electric current seek ground? And if it does, that would make any electrical effort moot?

there are traps that kill the little suckers... have you tried that?

What real harm do they do? I bet they eat pests anyway .... leave 'em alone! .

They sell sonic devices that are supposed to scare moles away....high frequency, maybe ultrasonic?

Try asking them nicely?

I agree with Del, leave the little sods alone...

You can buy those noise making things for a few quid and they are supposed to work, for out UK moles anyway... don't know about star nosed critters...

Now I've found a way to keep cats out of my garden...

Oh, yes. The Jasper Carrott moles sketch.

"There's only one way to get rid of a mole. You hire my 12-bore shotgun and wait. And when you see a mole, you blow it's b%^£&** head off!!"

"So there was I, sitting in my garden on a swivel chair around midnight with this chap's 12-bore, and I saw one. Then all of a sudden I had him in my sights and let rip."

Boom!

Boom!

Boom!

<audience laughter as the gun barrel points in all sorts of strange directions because of the influence of the swivel chair>

"Then I noticed a blue flashing light......"

<loud Brummie accent> "Whaddaya doing, Carrott?"

Thanks for all the suggestions.

To date we have discovered they don't seem to like living under water. Once the hose is left running in the maze of tunnels, you sit back (it would be great to have that swivel chair) and little heads pop up followed by some remarkably large bodies and head for the hills. Hopefully, they develop a liking for dryer ground.

Regarding the shotgun, we have been referred to as living in a little bit of a redneck area. I guess if worse comes to worse we can leave it on the option list. What do you think? Rifled slug!
