Survey on CMM Measurement Planning

02/15/2018 9:59 AM

Hi all,
I’m a postgraduate student working on CMM inspection planning.
I have structured a questionnaire for my research. I know that there is much space for improvement and additions, but it's a very early effort asking for feedback in order to improve my methods further. For this reason, you'll find a box for your comments and input which is really important to me.
The questionnaire is short enough I think, so you will not need to spend a lot of your time.
Please if you are dealing with CMM measurements and would like to fill it, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you in advance for your time and attention.

A coordinate measuring machine (CMM) is a device used in the measurement of the physical geometrical characteristics of an object. These machines can be manually controlled by an operator or they may be computer controlled. Measurements are defined by a probe attached to the third moving axis of this machine.

Come on... Do we really need to bust everyone's hump every time?

So, yes, we as a forum need to bust somebody's hump every time we see an undefined initialism in order to develop communication skills in each generation?

BS. AYFKM. WTF.

Yes. Otherwise how is the under-informed reader supposed to learn from the thread (rhetorical question - NNTR [no need to reply])?

The under informed reader would be me.

I do have a question, or two: is 11 pages short or long ? By responding to the questionnaire, does this require data to be used ?

If I didn't inhale the correct Cubic Meter per Minute while reading my Classic Motor Monthly article on Computer Measuring Machine then I might become unconscious.

Oh, this is in Mechanical Engineering. To avoid redundancy, measurement will not be one of the M's. This must therefore be a Construction Method Modeler measurement planning survey.

The number one mantra for good writing (and other arts) is know your audience. If your audience already knows the meaning of an acronym then don't waste their time on defining an acronym.

If the audience is intelligent but clueless of the subject discussed then one should expect polite abuse from the audience when an acronym is undefined.

I suppose that by having CMM in the heading, then those that understand what they are would be filtered from those who would be of little benefit in the survey.

Allegations of a need-to-know conspiracy keep flashing to mind here. One might unsubscribe to that.

Post set up , ( machine to part coordinate ) it seems to be a fresh approach to inspection planning. the visual aids in a CGI format is nice to define approach and location of how it is to be inspected.

some of the leader lines in the cgi is overwhelming and may hinder approach but still a good thought.

As to the combinations I answered your survey and the results should be noted.

inspection planning is a lot like training a toddler how to do something. " Every step" needs to be taken into consideration. but overall good questions for research on the topic.

Hi all,

I would really like to thank you all for participating in my survey, but more importantly for your comments and feedback which is really useful for further improving and developing this methodology.

My kindest regards to all.
