..."Amount of fuel required in 1 tph boiler depends on type of fuel used in boiler i.e. different fuel have different calorific value.

Formula for calculating fuel:

Fuel Consumption = steam quantity* latent heat / Efficiency * Calorific Value

FOR EXAMPLE:

For 1 tph wood fired boiler-

Fuel Consumption = 1000*540 / 0.75 *3500 = 205 kg/ hr"...

Fuel oil about 20 gal per hr....

Local, local, local! You should contact local suppliers of fuel and boiler maintenance to answer this question. If their answer(s) baffle you should then come back to this international forum for an explanation of their answers.

Hello you did not mention where you live, you only gave the choice between diesel and firewood. You should also consider to use solar heating energy if forinstance you have a sufficient roof area and location. Sun is a high energetic source for heat and can provide added heat for your business - even if you have to consider two heatsource in your business: a lower temperature solar heat supply for e.g. washing machines with hot water up to 50 - 60 degC. and the oil fired high temperature Boiler which can then be reduced in size. Whether this is efficient depends naturally on your business location, the available space for collectors and how much sunshine you get. But it can provide - might be only partly - a means to save the cost of fossil energy. And you would have an environmental oriented CO2 foot print. And solar heat is free of charge and costs no tax.

To give you a smaller scale example I live 49° North and even in wintertime if the 8m2 collector is free from snow and ice and the outside temperature is around -10 degC I can obtain around 30% of the heat required to heat my (heat efficent build) house. In summer the collector can provide temperatures up to 140 degC resulting (or more than 10kWh per day) and we do not know where to waste the warm water so we have to switch off the collector.

So I think it makes sense at least to look into such an alternative energy supply.

Best regards

If you are using wood as a fuel, you need to understand the burning rate of the fuel being used as well as how well the firebox transfers the heat to steam. Does the box throttle the air intake when temperature is met or does the excess heat go up the flue? The calculation may be well and good but it is considering 100% efficiency.

Yes, indeed. Boiler manufacturers can supply that information. Call some Sales Representatives and ask them for a visit to discuss the specific requirements.
