Electromagnetic flowmeters

Nobody will know more about your questions than someone who manufacturers and ses them. You may find someone here who has experience with ONE meter, but probably not hundreds and the failure history like a factory rep.

Contact them here. They are the experts. To contact your local KROHNE representative please select your country at the top of the page.

We build process skids for pharmaceutical companies here, and have for several decades. Pharmaceutical companies always demand spare parts for items that might wear out. Other than the gaskets for the pipe / tubing connections, next time one of them asks for flow meter spare parts, it will be the first time. Unless you are talking about the type with vanes or spinners, which we never use, and it appears you aren't, that should answer your question.

Nobody can predict service lifetimes because it depends in large part on service conditions.Heat kills electronics, so the hotter instruments get, the less life they have. The cooler they remain, the longer they last.

I see mag tubes buried underground in a vault on potable water service lasting 10 -15 years. They stay nice and cool underground.

The erosion from high pressure cement grout makes those mag tubes last about one year.

Electronics that are not subject to electrical brown-outs also can last 10 -15 years. If the electronics box has a keypad that someone is always messing with, for instance, entering a batch preset value, the keypad will likely wear out in 2-4 years.

For any site, whether it has only a couple flow meters or 50 flow meters, one looks at the cost of down time should a flow meter failure occur. If the downtime costs really exceeds the cost of spare meter and tube, then take notice. Note that delivery of a tube can be substantially longer than the delivery of electronics, because the electronics boxes are nearly universal - they're configured for the tube that they're attached to. But a tube can have a variety of linings or electrode materials and the oddballs are long delivery times.
