There is a guy on eBay that sells plans he will email you for about $5 that use 3 phase motors. You will still need a step up transformer. This is not the best 3 phase and it involves running the extra motor. Probably the best and simplest way to go is find yourself a single phase 240 to 480 transformer then go on eBay and there is a guy selling new Toshiba solid state single to three phase converters starting around $200 with more features than you can shak a stick at. Good luck!

Yes, it is a good idea but I want a circuit diagram of a single phase to three phase converter so I can build it by my self because I have a proget to do

Hi there,

Would a single phase 230-240 transformer do the trick?

Hello all, I think I might be acquiring a 3 phase 480v plasma cutter, (circuitry damaged but I should be able to repair) so company might be tossing out for new one. So this leaves me to getting 3 phase in my home garage, I have settled on making my own Rotary converter and am only looking to power the Plasma cutter. The cutter draws 27A @ 480VAC 3 phase, what size motor would I need for the inverter or could someone guide me towards the proper equation for motor size and Capacitor selection Thank You
