I have an old book on building several types of windmills but I''ll have to dig it out. Published by a Dutch writer in the 1940's I belive.

Good idea, But 1940 book may not able to give today's advance technology advantage it may give the basic fundamental theory. By the way have you work on any type of wind mill? Reply to:derajinternational@derajgroup.com

I agree, not much there for a high rise install.

But has tons of info that makes it easy to understand wind load and how different material work with the wind.

A 5 Meg machine is a monster. You will need a blade span of at least 300 feet. The tower alone will be in the millions of dollars. Are you sure you dont mean 5kW?

LOL,

Yeah, just send that on over to him. Millions of $$ invested in design and someone is going to just email that. Riiiiiight...

Hey Duraj,

These folks apparently have a 2.5MW plant design available. Click to Page 8 of the PowerPoint to get an idea of the scale, then keep in mind that is 1/2 of what you are looking for. For wind Class 1a (moderate), the rotor diameter is 89m, for class 111b (low speed) it's 99m diameter.

Maybe they'll email their plans to you huh?

If I remember the content of lectures I have been to, you have to do a comprehensive wind survey to determine the best sites and size of wind generators before starting a design. Just putting one anywhere is not very efficient. In Britain we have the best places in Europe to site wind generators. However only a small percentage of Britain is most suitable for them. That is why we are now planning massive offshore sites on East and West coasts.

I'm not into the technology myself but remember the need is for a high percentage of strong wind time per day, coinciding with peak power requirement times. As I say, the survey must be comprehensive, probably lasting months or years and be carried out professionally to avoid dormant generators and wasting millions of dollars.

Deraj; The Danish Wind Power Association has a great deal of information which you may find helpful. I own a small wind farm in southern Oregon. 20kW right now with a goal of 50kW in the next couple of years. To develop this small farm took me 2-1/2 years and a pile of money. Wind energy sounds great but it can become a black hole if not approached very carefully. FG
