What is the Best Way to Improve this Coal Conveyor Drive?

09/13/2007 1:45 AM

Dear sir

4 KM long , 6000 TPH and speed 4.5 m/s coal conveyor

Total connected load 3300 KW (following location)

Drives loaction

1) Head pully 1) Top 2 no's 550 KW and 2) Botom 2 no's 550 KW

2) Tailpully 1) 2 no's 550 KW

so which following case use for batter Load sharing, save energy & smooth start up in following case ?

1) Direct on line

2) FCMA soft strater

3) VFD drive

4) Controlled strart trnsmissin (CST drive- variable speed using clutch controlled)

5) Variable fluidcopling

First: Start the top motors. Run to steady speed.

Then Start the lower ones.

For stopping : First Switch off Lower ones. Then any time later--the Upper ones.

We need more information such as belt type, belt thickness meaning belt layers/plies in belt thickness, mechanical or vulcanised splices, if vulcanised-hot or cold.

Is the conveyor in question run around the clock-24 hours seven days week? How often is the belt inspected-daily, weekly, monthly?

Are you sure of your product weight being 6,000 tons per hour? do you have belt scales to verify same.

It may be as simple as belt overload which will reduce efficiency.

How often are the idlers greased per year? how often are drive and tail pulley bearings greased per year? how often are the chain drives and gearboxes checked for fluid levels per year?

How often are the sprokets for the chain drives inspected?

How often is shoveling done to remove coal fines from under the tail pulleys and drive units? This is the number one item to prevent belt fires and is paramount in reducing friction and reducing amperage!

What condition are the belt scrapers and tail pulley plows in? If they are worn out or not effective it will produce considerable drag on the conveyor.

How wet is the coal being moved from A to B?

A capsule pipeline is much more efficient thann a conveyor- to see one currently in use google karasawa mine to see a system that has been in use for over twenty years,

also google www.pnuetrans.net and or thorne pnuematics to get to the same site- the canadian design is much simpler than the one used at the karasawa mine.

Dear sir

Thanks for relply,

Pl find information of our conveyor systeam

Is the conveyor in question run around the clock-24 hours seven days week? How often is the belt inspected-daily, weekly, monthly?20 Hours ,inspection-weekly

Are you sure of your product weight being 6,000 tons per hour? do you have belt scales to verify same. Yes

It may be as simple as belt overload which will reduce efficiency. 85 %

How often are the idlers greased per year? how often are drive and tail pulley bearings greased per year? how often are the chain drives and gearboxes checked for fluid levels per year?inspection all Monthly Greased 2 times per year yearl

How often are the sprokets for the chain drives inspected?

How often is shoveling done to remove coal fines from under the tail pulleys and drive units? This is the number one item to prevent belt fires and is paramount in reducing friction and reducing amperage! External rabber type

What condition are the belt scrapers and tail pulley plows in? If they are worn out or not effective it will produce considerable drag on the conveyor.

How wet is the coal being moved from A to B? 25 % to 40 % moisture content.

please clarify the belt clearing/cleaning part of your answer- is a beater tail pulley used to clear build up?, is a belt scraper used under the head pulley of the drive unit?, what type of splices are you using?. If you are using mechanical splices are you caulking them with silicone caulk to stop spillagethrough the splice?
