Paralleling Conductors Sheeting Effects

09/13/2007 11:10 AM

Parallel feeders 4X 1c. 500 mcm. 5kv teck cable One being spare, direct burial accept conduits from building – transformer 15' stubbed out.

The first layer of conductors are spaced 6" apart and go in order of phases A, B, C, & C

The second layer is on top with 6" sand separation and goes in order Spare, Spare, A & B

The way it appears that vertical conduits at building end got crossed over.

The best way I could rearrange paralleling the conductors would be in order of

Spare, A,B&C the second layer on top would be in order A,B,C & Spare?

Question if I leave conductors as installed what effects there would be like sheeting currents would they be increased due to conductors arrangement or no effect?

Second question if I rearrange conductors what effects there would be?

Note the single teck conductor has 1/0 shielding – ground wire which is connected to the ground on supply end only and floating on other end.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated? Thanks

You might want to discus this with your Inspection department; I would not leave it as is. I am not to sure if there would be any effects on the spacing as you have stated.

Actually it would be good question at what spacing and voltages –current effect would start, is there a formula for this?
