Drawing offices use the terms "elevation" and "plan", generally, to label these views. Presumably, the <...AutoCAD...> operator is skilled enough to use these terms in the drawing?

I agree. The terms plan and elevation are universally used by CAD designers

In AutoCAD, front view is also known as elevation view and top view is also known as plan view.

It sounds as though the original question has been answered, then.

Generically speaking, a ''top'' view could alternatively be described as an ''overhead'' view, and a ''front'' view could be descibed as a ''head-on'' view...

The plan and elevation views are referenced in most GDT standards.

These are best described as multiview projection.

I hear this quite often.

"Can you spin the model this way, no the other way, no not that way the other way, wait, go back to the other view, not that one, this one, here let me do it"
