Unless your supply voltage also varies by +/- 10%, in which case your 440V motor may be operating on 360V, nearly 19% below its rating. Depending upon the type of motor and the load it is driving, it will draw excessive current, run slower, run hotter, provide less torque, may stall, trip its protective devices, and may not even start.

I hope your process can tolerate your budget restrictions.

Is the old motor rated 440 50Hz, or 60Hz? That makes a big difference too, because assuming your 400V supply is 50Hz, a 440V 60Hz rated motor can be operated at 367V +_10% at 50Hz with no problem.

It depends on whether this <...tight budget...motor...> is "getting the load away", because if it isn't, which is quite possible with this out-of-spec situation, then the <...we...> won't be <...getting...> any work from it. The <...we...> may only want to use it as a convector heater, for instance, and the <...efficiency...> of those is usually 100%.

In any case, what the <...we...> is <...getting...> from it cannot be seen from here. So it matters not a jot.

Hi,

Using 400V supply, it will run but not full efficiency.

Check with the manufacturer what kind of motor it is and what is the 440 V- peak voltage may be?.
