PCS7 vs TIA

06/26/2018 7:37 AM

Hello,

I'm a newbie in TIA Portal and came across PCS7. I was wondering if PCS7 is able to do basically everything that TIA offers. Why would Siemens introduce TIA Portal?

Thank you very much in advance!

Regards

Rather than bother readers on CR4, many of whom are trying to get some sleep, the quickest way to an answer to this specific question is to telephone Siemens' local sales offices directly, and discuss the matter with one of its Sales Engineers. Their numbers can be found on their website.

Are you serious? Someone asking a question disturbs your sleep? Maybe his local Siemens office is also asleep.

PCS7 is Siemens' DCS, Distributed Control System. DCS is used widely in the process industries, as opposed to discrete manufacturing industries. A DCS is server based, not controller based, like a PLC, so a DCS' HMI is not a separate entity with its own tag database, but an integral part of the server based DCS. Almost everything in the DCS is a licensed 'option'.
