Is this EMF Detector Good?

07/06/2018 4:22 PM

Is planning to buy this emf reader as its fits in my budget
https://www.amazon.in/KKmoon-Electromagnetic-Radiation-Detector-Dosimeter/dp/B013HQ0S1Y
I want to use it to measure emf from 11kv electric wires 3 of those and a double pole mounted distribution transformer connected to these 3 wires which is 15feet away from my room. Will this emf meter detect the emf levels in the room. I just want basic nowledge about emf being safe or not in the room and not exact reading. So is it good.

What you didn't ask is what is a safe level. We have discussed this before and it seems impossible to get everyone to agree on a value.

11 kV isn't an unusually large value. In the past my residential neighborhood had 13 kV lines. The only reason (per lineman's story) that they dropped down to 7820 V was that the ocean salt and damp weather caused too many fires on wooden poles. The story seems reasonable. I got to meet a lot of neighbors from a block or two away when we all had a power outage and gathered around the creasote soaked wooden pole to watch the fire department watch the pole burn.

(They only let my neighborhood's pole burn for a few hours. A friend had a pole in his yard burn for about 3 days before it got down to ground level.)

Learning about electric fields is a good idea. Taking seriously what this little instrument tells you might not be.

As BruceFlorida said, it MAY give you a rough estimate of the levels throughout the room, but it won't have an opinion about those levels being safe.

That is a racket that preys on people whose common sense is smaller than their wallet. You can buy it online for a lot less.

There are 2 types of radiation, ionizing and non-ionizing....People seem to get these two confused....Non-ionizing radiation is produced by power lines and not considered dangerous, there are no limits to exposure....Ionizing radiation, like produced by x-ray machines, is dangerous and has limits to exposure...Don't fall for scams claiming otherwise....there are plenty....

...but it's so much fun to read the reviews.

"This little device is a MUST HAVE for paranormal investigators..."

"Try putting this in front of an old CRT computer monitor that we used to sit in front of all day long and wonder what that might have done to your innards!"

"I haven't detected any supernatural stuff with the meter yet."

Wow.

From the reviews at the bottom of the Amazon web page, it appears that the machine works, but does not give a particularly reliable result. Given that there is no indication of safe levels, it does not appear to be worth the bother and expense.

I'm re-patterning!!!

How come aliens don’t wear clothes?

Why do you need to oil a holograph?

One of the major signs of severe EMF poisoning is repeating the same question over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over.

It may be too late for the OP.

He may already have acute repetition syndrome, which is a sure sign of EMF poisoning.

Indeed, the meticulous record of Bounty's log reveals that the flogging rate was lower than the average for that time.

The movie contains several historical inaccuracies. Captain Bligh was never on board HMS Pandora, nor was he present at the trial of the mutineers who stayed on Tahiti.

How to NOT Light Yourself Up Like a Chump Christmas Tree

Check out this full featured, inexpensive 60 cycle EMF(Non-Contact Voltage) Tester.
You can get cheaper ones of these for checking Holiday(Xmas) Light Strings that run on LR44 button batteries but I prefer AAA batteries that this one uses. This one also has two ranges and a green LED to indicate "in-operation"(not dead). If you put it on the low voltage range you could get a warning as you approach the high EMF. Then if you switch it to the higher range and as you approach even closer you would get a second, even higher danger warning.

Besides your EMF exposure application you can also use it to find hot wires in your house wiring. If you ever do any home appliance debug this app is a far greater practicality safety tool than your near field EMF exposure risk accessment(see other
posts re EMF hazards vs ionizing radiation hazards) which in any case is likely to vary over time. And we could talk about series connected Xmas tree lighting debug as another high practicality app.

The device has a 1000v limit for its intended use so you may fry it if you get too close to your 11kv specific application. Remember the green LED will extinguish if it is not operating properly which indicates a very high risk may exist or it may indicate your batteries are dead.

You could test its performance on higher voltage sources such as your distribution transformer by simply approaching the pole to get some inking of the sensitivity of this device. Of course, this is a dicey task if you are truly concerned about greater distance EMF exposures. The dual (light and sound) indicator is a good feature on this one since it would allow you to use it on the low range to get a heads-up when you are not explicitly testing a suspected danger spot.

You could even accessorize this tester with coils with many turns connected across a resistor if you wanted to test varying magnetic fields with varying levels of sensitivity. You could then vastly extend the sensitivity and distinguish between inductive fields and electric fields. The tool senses alternating(around 60 cycles) fields only. If you also need to sense static fields you could use OTS electrometers, hall effect devices, proton precession magnetometers, and similar, typically at vastly higher prices. Using non-scam "test products" to measure real phenomena will distinguish you from all the run-of-the-mill chumps who simply purchase their way into the chump hierarchy and enable you with some effort to describe the real physical world with real physical fields and using real vocabulary instead of becoming a techno-shaman spouting vocabulary designed to sell the massively overpriced pseudo-testers. The sellers of the pseudo-testers cannot afford to reveal what might lead one to buy some less expensive commodity device which measures the same thing since they make their fortune on the price delta. So, they use coded, inappropriate(EMF for example is a real thing:Electromotive Force which is roughly an obfuscating synonym for voltage but contact voltmeters can often be obtained for free from Harbor Freight), or simply inaccurate language to obfuscate why their needles twitch, their numbers change, and their lights flash.

A non-contact voltmeter of this sort measures alternating voltages without conductor to conductor contact and an electrometer measures non-contact, non-alternating voltages by measuring induced charge. They are all, in a sense, measuring voltage. Some "EMF meters" are like cheap electrometers which measure charge on an insulated gate electronic device. If the electric field you are trying to measure is alternating(and having a fixed frequency) such as is the case for most power distribution transformers, then the measuring device can be made very cheaply and can be sold to everyday consumers to find the bad bulb(the end of the line for the alternating voltage) on a Christmas tree light string. The device in the link above is of this type.
