Rework of Hardness for FG 260 Material During Stress Relieving

07/15/2018 11:16 AM

We have stress relieved FG260 crankcase of wall thickness 22 mm at 720 degrees centigrade for 1 hours 30 minutes, due to which the BHN hardness value has reduced from 210 to 150 BHN. Electric furnace is used for Stress relieving .

We want to rework the same to get a minimum BHN of 200. Please suggest the rework procedure / process

Thanks in advance,

Ravi Bagewadi

Your aging temp seems high.....recommended 520 to 580C...and your time seems too short, recommended @ 4-6 hrs....

Thank you very much .

I will try to reduce temp to 580 Deg, and adopt soaking time of 2.5 - 3 hrs for 22 mm wall thickness.

And for rework use 850 Deg. 1 HR soaking and forcibly cool with fan

Once it is done and proven to work, write it up as a production standard for others to follow.
