Gas turbine fuel options

09/23/2007 9:09 AM

Gas turbine uses fuels like naphtha,Diesel, natural gas, kerosene, combination of diesel and fuel gas etc. What is the fuel originally intended as per design of Gas turbine? For example, for GE frame 3 and 5 machines?

The frame 3 and 5 we intended as mechanical drives (compressor drives) and since natural gas compressors are probaly the most common, it's natural fuel is natural gas.

General Electric Frame 3&5 Gas Turbine were both designed to use Natural Gas as fuel

In our plant, combination of Refinery fuel gas(90%)and HSD (10%) is used as GT fuel. Natural gas is ideal, but if there is no availability of Natural gas, what is the next best fuel option? Is naphtha fuel is more efficient, more economical, than fuel gas(90%) and HSD (10%) combination? Please advise, with more details if known.

I'd hazard a guess that your best line of enquiry would commence with the manufacturers, aren't they able to help? I'd have thought they could provide settings/modifications that would cover most fuels that you could contemplate using.

Many older Frame 3 & 5 in the power generation industry use diesel. Some are dual fuel, diesel or natural gas. Most new GE Frame turbines are natural gas.
