Nestled Pulley

09/26/2007 4:46 PM

I have worked with power transmission the past 30 years and ran across a customer wanting a "nestled pulley", something about the rim is formed in such a way as to not allow flipping of the belt. Has anyone else ever heard of this?

I've heard of a 'jockey wheel' that just takes up the slack of the belt to keep the belt firm on the pulleys. The jockey wheel is mounted on a spring loaded arm.

"Has anyone else ever heard of this?" NO.

Did you try to Google for "Nestled Pulley" first?

Did this guy have any idea what he was talking about or did he just talk like he did? Could he be talking about a V belt? That would fit the description "the rim is formed in such a way as to not allow flipping of the belt"

Was he perhaps speaking of a "nested pulley"? [What I am thinking of is a series of concentric pulleys that are of stacked side by side from greatest diameter to smaller diameters.] I believe we may have had a recent discussion on the topic.

Pulleys in a nest - maybe it refers to0 jockey pulleys.

a jockey pulley manage the extension of the arc of contact. improves grip, (i don't know about flipping).

Maybe it refers to an drive with an intermediate shaft on a 1/4 (or 1/2) twist drive.
